Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that you are having a good weekend!

I'm writing today to remind you about some of the opportunities for your child in their Confirmation preparation. Most things discussed here has a link related to it below my signature, so if you are looking to sign up for an activity or experience or are looking the form for your child to complete their reflection on their work, please look below my signature.

The first thing that I want to point out is that next Saturday, November 1, 2025, we have space for more students to attend the service project at the Mission of Our Lady of Angels at 3814 W. Iowa St. in Chicago. This is an outdoor event where we will be handing out either food, clothing, or household items to those in need. We will be there from 8:00am to 11:30am. It fulfills the service requirement for serving those on the margins. I am also looking for additional parents to join us for this project as chaperones.

I know several people were looking to find a way to serve in the Church community, which is often fulfilled by those who are serving at the alter, reading at Mass, or helping with one of the parish events, but a great chance to fulfill that service requirement is to join the Fall clean out on Saturday, November 8. There are early and late morning shifts available to serve in.

All of these projects, no matter when they were done, get verified by completing the Faith in Action Reflection Form which you can download below.

Finally... I did want to make a note for those whose children missed the Confirmation Retreat a few weeks ago. One way to "make up" the absence is to attend the pilgrimage that the 7th grade class is making on Saturday, November 8 from 8:00am to 2:00pm. We are taking a bus from Saint Andrew to sites where the Venerable Augustus Tolton (a future saint of the church) lived, worked, and prayed. Faith In Action Projects

The expectation is for each Confirmation candidate to do one Faith In Action project in each of 3 categories -

A - Care for the earth
B - Service to those on the margins and
C - Service to the church.

In each of the first two categories (A&B), I will provide an organized experience allowing students to do the project together. The first of these will be in May and in June, I will also organize similar opportunities in the Fall. A student does not need to go on all of the organized activities, just one from each category, or they can do an independent project in those areas so long as they coordinate it with me.

The third category, serving the church, can be done in a myriad of ways and is done independently. Altar serving, helping with Family Mass, volunteering at Wearin the Green, parish activities, etc. All of these qualify. I will make some specific opportunities available to you in subsequent emails.
