Opening Prayer

O God, protector of those who hope in you, without whom nothing has firm foundation, nothing is holy, bestow in abundance your mercy upon us and grant that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now to those that ever endure. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

The Readings

Reading 1 1 KGS 3:5, 7-12

The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Solomon answered: “O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?”

The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him: “Because you have asked for this— not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding so that you may know what is right— I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you.”

Reading 2 ROM 8:28-30

Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.

Gospel MT 13:44-52 OR 13:44-46

Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.

“Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

Prayers of the Faithful

For the Church, that we may realize the treasure of God’s presence, buried in each person we meet, and live our lives in the joy of that knowledge. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For political leaders, that they may govern the vast and diverse people in their care with wise and understanding hearts. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For those facing or recovering from droughts or floods, from violent weather or rising sea levels. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For an awareness of the preciousness of life from conception to natural death. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For those who are affected by COVID19 that God will help them through this difficult time and for the entire world as we face this pandemic. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

That we might grow in wisdom and understanding and use these gifts to continue building up the kingdom of God. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For the departed, who remain with us in our prayers and our memories, and for the promise of a joyful reunion, and especially for Nancy Stanton, Myra Ensinger Minton and Robert Ledvina. We pray to the Lord. LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Spiritual Communion

In many places in the world receiving Holy Communion is not possible. Catholics in these areas are encouraged to make "Spiritual Communion." St.Teresa of Jesus wrote about this practice: "When you do not receive communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by it the love of God will be greatly impressed on you"

You can make Spiritual Communion by the bringing this prayer to your heart...

"My Jesus, I believe that you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you; never permit me to be separated from you. Amen."

Closing Prayer

As we have participated in this divine prayer, we pray that the grace which you yourself have given may profit us for our salvation. Through Christ our Lord. AMEN

Announcement about Renew My Church

This past week Fr. Sergio received a letter from Bishop Bartosic instructing us that Saint Andrew Parish and our area grouping has been activated for Renew My Church.

Join the Reopening Team

The team that is assisting with the reopening of Saint Andrew parish for public worship is in need of additional volunteers to help with clean up, set up, and greeting. We are unable to return to our full schedule of Masses until we have more personnel to support the reopening. To find out more about the team's needs and to sign up, read more.
